Our Mother's Day Weekend

Bob had Saturday off this week so we actually got to spend the whole weekend together! We started out Saturday morning with a garden planting party at my parents house as part of my mom's Mother's Day gift from the family. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Red Robin, which is one of my favorite places to eat, with my parents, and all my sisters. After running a few errands and showering the dirt from the garden away, Bob and I went to Tessa's house for a party to celebrate everyone who had a birthday in spring or summer. There were plenty of delicious taco's, presents, and fun. Lisa, Katie, Mimi and I spent a bit of time playing the cup game. Bob, Sam and I also worked on some tricky 3D puzzles together, while the boys ran in and out of the house playing with the water blasters and noise makers we got for them. It's always a good time when the family all gets together! Finally, we ended the day by going to see The Great Gatsby, which I thought was marvelous! It's one of my favorite books, and it was done almost exactly the way it was written (there were a couple minor changes), not to mention the costumes, music and scenery were all amazing!

Sunday, Bob made dinner for my mom for Mother's Day to surprise her with when she got home from church. My sisters and I were supposed to be helping but we were busy trying to prevent my mom from going into the kitchen when she got home, and we didn't really know what we were doing anyway. Instead we sat in the living room with my mom talking, joking and telling funny stories while we waited for dinner to be finished. Finally we were able to sit my mom down to a DELICIOUS chicken parmigian dinner with spaghetti, and garlic bread for sides. Afterward, I did the dishes for my mom, and we scooped up some brownies for dessert. We also gave my mother a new apron, pot holder, kitchen towels, and onion goggles. After a little more visiting, it was back home to give Marcie her mother's day gifts. We gave her a home made card with a promise of one full day of gardening from each of us and a sun hat for her to wear while she was in the garden. Bob and I then relaxed to an episode of Game of Thrones before Tessa and the kids came over to visit and we played out in the front yard with them, teaching Braxton to ride a scooter and talking until the sun was long gone!

Family Fun Time

I had such a wonderful weekend, and it was over way too fast! After work on Friday I went straight over to my best friend Sarah's new apartment. It was my first time seeing her new place, and my first time seeing her in several weeks. After a quick tour and giving her the house warming gift I got for her, we sat down on the couch for some good old fashioned girl talk. We talked about everything, work, our men, our goals for the future, TV, decorating, our beliefs, history... It's nice to have someone who I have known since I was 10, that I can talk to about anything! We talked until after 3 in the morning, before I finally told her I had to go.

The next morning I was up at 8 so I could go with my dad to Provo to cheer my cousin Melissa on at the finish line of her first half marathon of the year. She lives in St. George so I don't get to see her often, so it was nice to catch up with her and my Aunt Barbara over breakfast after the race. Not to mention, it's such an inspiration to watch her run and knowing how far she has come! (She started running as a way to get into shape after her doctor told her she had diabetes, and if she didn't get physically active, she would kill herself within a couple years. She has come so far in the last couple years, it makes me wonder what I can be capable of if I only apply myself. She is the reason I signed up to do a half marathon myself this year!)

After breakfast, Melissa had a massage, so dad and I headed back to his house. Bob had the car so I didn't have a way of going anywhere, so I mentioned to my dad that we should go golfing, knowing perfectly well that it wouldn't take much to convince him. When we got to the house, my mom wanted to go grocery shopping but instead we convinced the family to go golfing. In the end it was mom, dad, Rachel and I who went. It was the best golf game I have ever had. Rachel and I were cracking jokes and laughing hysterically, my mom and dad were both in great moods and we all spent a lovely afternoon playing together. In the end, I lost by A LOT, but it was worth it for some good old bonding time with my family, plus it was fun to watch Rachel beat my dad by 1 point! After golf we stopped at Cold Stone for some ice cream, which was delicious.

When we got back to the house, we sat around talking for some time before we some how decided it would be a good idea to make Kelsey draw a hobo, riding a hippo, in the New York subway on the white board using nothing but her mouth to hold the markers. I have to say, she is quite the artist! I don't think I could draw the picture nearly as well as she did even with the use of my hands! She was very entertaining to watch as well, and lucky for my husband he came over just in time to watch her finish the picture. I also finally got to meet Rachel's new boyfriend Mac for the first time, I didn't talk to him for long but they seem to really like each other and he seemed like a nice enough guy, so I guess I approve!

Finally, Bob and I left and after some chicken strips and fries we watched Iron Man 3 in the theatre. It was fantastic! Probably my favorite of all the iron man movies! By the time we left the movie, it was 1 AM and I was exhausted, I barely made it to my bed before passing out for the night. I slept like a baby!

Sunday was our lazy rest day. We spent most of the day lounging around in PJ's/sweats watching Netflix, or talking to family over dinner. We did make it over to the local Elementary school for some basketball, which I was having an off day at, so I lost pretty badly. I did win our free throw contest though! Bob got 5 out of 10, and I got 7 out of 10 (I was shooting for 80% so I was pretty close to my goal!) After basketball, Bob and I got some junk food and Slurpee's from 7-11 and went back to our lazy ways....
