Kids and Snakes

Last week the Loose Clan discovered that the incompetent doctors at Jordan Valley Hospital wanted to do surgery on my Father-in-law Wayne's leg to remove the excess infection that was still there (why they didn't do that during his 6 day hospital stay last week is beyond me!) Luckily this allowed all the grand kids an excuse to make cute little "get well soon" cards and posters for Wayne, which they dropped off Wednesday morning before the surgery. While they were over, the kids insisted on helping me check on the reptiles, and once downstairs, they couldn't resist getting some out to play with!

After the kids left, Bob and I headed over to Chelsea's house to watch Benton. I had to go to work, but Bob was able to play with this cute little fella for several hours!

Kelsey Turns 19!

Man, oh man, why must the weekend always fly by?! Saturday, I woke up with a little less than zero desire to go running. Too bad, I already signed up for a half marathon this October, so I need to get my butt into gear. The sooner the better! (insert exasperated sigh here!) My brilliant plan to trick myself into believing I could skip running for the day? Cleaning! Lots of it. It was actually a pretty productive day, a lot got done, just no training! Luckily the day went by so quickly, that the next thing I know the entire Loose clan had shown up for our family dinner in celebration of my Father-in-law Wayne being home and our Grandma Malan being in town from Idaho! It's always a good time, when the whole family gets together on a nice summer evening for good food and better company! As the sun went down though, the family began to clean up and head home. Cassy and I were able to collect a few donations from the family before they left though and take them to a good old fashioned Beer and Nachos for MS fundraiser. See, every year my friend's Brian and Alex do a ride for MS race on their bikes, and this year they wanted to collect $500 in donations, and what better way than to throw a fundraiser party for the cause. Of course this is a fundraiser near and dear to the family so I felt like I needed to support the cause, and suffering with MS herself, Cassy wanted to go show support as well and show Brian and Alex exactly who they are riding for! It was great seeing old friends and eating good food knowing that the money was going to a great cause! After we had our fill of nachos and socializing, Cassy and I met up with our wonderful men to see World War Z. I'm a sucker for a good zombie flick, and this one was alright entertainment. Unfortunately, Bob said they butchered the actual book by not following even a semblance of the right story line, and I just thought the main character was a bit of an idiot. I mean seriously! Who walks around with their cell phone ring tone turned all the way up when you are about to try sneaking past hordes of zombies that you know are drawn to sound? Even worse, why on earth would you ever put your one and only weapon down and then walk into another room unarmed? Even if there was no threat in that room, you better expect a threat will be in the room where you left your weapon and you won't be able to get to it again, that's how these things work! Stupid! Oh well, what can you expect when a movie uses most of it's budget getting Brad Pitt to play the lead?

Sunday, Bob and I tried to drag ourselves out of bed to do some car shopping. We did manage to get ourselves to the auto mall, but we were tired and feeling lazy so we soon gave up on that venture and we headed back home for a day of pure, unadulterated laziness! We sat around watching movies and napping periodically until it was time to go celebrate my favorite little blond sister's birthday. That's right, little Kelsey, and she just turned 19! I'm sure someone out there is in disbelief that she is already 19 because they remember holding her as a baby and what-not but to me, I grew up with the silly girl and sometimes I forget she is still that young... She's only 1 more year away from leaving her teens though, and that's exciting! We had a nice family BBQ, just the immediate family, and of course cake, ice cream and exchanging of presents. Personally my favorite part of the day though, was just hanging out with my sisters, singing along to Anastasia and talking about boys. You know, the things you can only do with your sisters. I know it's cliche, but I remember my mom telling me as a kid that my sisters would someday be my best friends. I didn't believe her at all, but now I see that she was right all along. I truly love my sisters, and they are like my best friends right now, and I somehow got lucky enough to have not one, not two, but THREE of them! It seems like the older we get, the more true this becomes. Happy Birthday Kelsey, my artist, my comedian, my best friend, and my sister!

Father's Day Weekend

This weekend kind of felt like a roller coaster of good and bad. I started Saturday morning off with a 7 mile run, which I barely finished without killing over, but I didn't have time to dwell on my tired body. I quickly got ready for Jeanine and Johnny's wedding. I have known Jeanine since I was 10 years old, and she even did the pictures for my wedding! Her wedding started with a Cambodian ceremony, which was something I had never seen before so it was fun and different. Unfortunately since the ceremony was in Cambodian as well, I had no idea what was going on or being said, which led to me throwing my handful of wheat seeds too early...OOPS! Rookie white girl mistake! After the Cambodian ceremony Sarah and I met up with Michelle (again, we've known her since we were 10) and Anya (who we've known since we were 13), and we found a table together to watch the 2nd ceremony, this one was Arapajo Native American ceremony, but luckily done in English! It was really short and simple, and fun to watch. Afterward dinner was served. Unfortunately I don't like Asian style foods, so with the exception of a little bit of duck, and wedding cake, all I had was some Hennessey and Mike's Lemonade. It was really fun to sit and catch up with old friends though so the lack of food I liked didn't ruin a beautiful wedding for me!

Me and the beautiful bride!

After the wedding, I picked up Bob and The Avengers for the last leg in the Bell Marvel movie marathon. My parents seemed to really enjoy the movie, though my dad seemed to like it more than my mom did. We didn't have too much time to sit and chat after the movie though because I needed to get ready and meet up with Sarah, Chelsea, Brittney and Lindsey so we could go clubbing for Lindsay's 21st birthday. We went to Maxwell's, a first for everyone but Sarah. We had to stand in line for a long time though and after my morning run and then standing in heels all day at the wedding, my feet were screaming at me for a break! We finally made it into the club and began dancing. It was a lot of fun, but it was hot and crowded not too mention there were guys getting a little too handsy with us, so we decided we were done for the night. As we left I got a phone call from my husband letting me know that my Father-in-law Wayne had finally gone in to have an injury on his knee looked at, and he was sent to the emergency room and eventually checked into the hospital for a blood infection and blood sugar that was nearly triple what it should be (he is diabetic). I headed home as fast as I possibly could, changed into sweats and then we headed to the hospital to sleep in uncomfortable hospital chairs by Wayne's bed to make sure he wasn't left alone over night. It was a scary situation but luckily he was in pretty stable condition!

The next morning we spent some time with Wayne and gave him his Father's Day gift (A pocket hose), before leaving him in the capable hands of his daughter Dani. Bob and I didn't sleep very well, so we went home to catch a few ZZZ's in the comfort of our own bed before heading to my parents house to celebrate Father's Day with my daddy. My parents BBQ'd ribs, and had corn, warm rolls, watermelon and potato salad followed by some delicious Strawberry Cheesecake. Then my dad opened his presents. He got a bunch of car stuff, as well as an Evanescence CD from my sisters and a fancy Marines Book from Bob and I. He seemed to really enjoy the book we got him, he couldn't put it down! Bob and I hung out with my family for a little while which resulted in my sisters and I starting a band with air guitars, drums and pianos. Savannah "hurt her neck" trying to keep up with the amazing head banging talents of me and Kelsey. We had a lot of fun, but then all too soon Bob and I needed to go back to the hospital and check on Wayne. Luckily he seemed to be doing much better, so Bob and I settled in for another night tossing and turning in the hospital chairs. As of right now, Wayne is doing much better, but is still in the hospital for observation and to make sure that the infection and blood sugar levels don't flare up again. We are hoping he will be able to come home again soon!
