The Big 2-7 for My Hubby

Bob's birthday has duel purposes, at least for me. Not only do we get to celebrate his birth but it's also a one week warning for Bob that our anniversary is coming up (that way he can't forget it). Unfortunately with our anniversary so close, it also casts a small shadow over his birthday. This year it meant that Bob couldn't take work off for his birthday since he was already using all his time off for our anniversary trip. I still wanted to make sure I made his birthday special, and since one of his favorite shows is Breaking Bad, I used that as the theme. I found an old Jr. High friend who makes gourmet cupcakes and asked her to make Breaking Bad themed cupcakes (they looked, and tasted amazing so thanks Mina!) I then found the newest season of Breaking Bad on DVD and gave that to him as well. It wasn't the fanciest birthday or the most fun (thanks to having to work) but I think it helped make his day a little more exciting and I'm pretty sure I succeeded in surprising him for once! In any case, Happy 27th Birthday old man, I love you more than the world itself!

The Couple Who Walks Together...

It's been recently discovered that Bob and I have become lazy. We watch TV shows about how horribly unhealthy sedentary lives can be both physically and mentally while eating our junk food and drinking our soda talking about hikes we never actually take. It's sad really. In order to not become "those people" and in an attempt to spend time together, time outdoors and get our butts into better shape we have begun weekly walks. We generally head for the river bottoms where there are lots of people around enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors without it being overly crowded. There in between acting like silly little kids racing each other, "rescuing" snails from being squashed on the footpath, and showing off our cartwheeling skills we walk side by side, holding hands and just talking. I have really grown to love our little walks.

This week, due to our jealousy of the many people walking their dogs, we decided to mix it up a little by borrowing one of my parents dogs to go on the walk with us. Little did we know all the dogs would want to go as well as my sisters Rachel and Savannah. It was fun having my sisters along so they could have some bonding time with their new brother, and I enjoyed having dogs to walk. They dogs really loved getting out for once and behaved really well. They didn't bark at other dogs, and they followed where we told them to go. At one point it was even tempting to take them off their leashes, but with the river close by we didn't dare. Afterwards we took everyone home, and Bob and I got ice cream. It was a wonderful day!

I don't have pictures from the walk, although I know I should have taken some. Instead, here are pics of the dogs so you know who I'm talking about.
This is Akeela, my favorite!

This is Kieko, Koda, Bailey and Akeela. Bailey is no longer
with us unfortunately, but all the little monsters came along

My First Ever (but definitely not my last) Comic Con

FYI - My husband is a nerd. He loves his comic books, super hero's, anime and Sci Fi books and movies.... and TV shows. I didn't realize when I met him, that nerdiness is also often contagious. I don't necessarily fall for all the nerdy vices and some major nerds are going to scream at me for saying I don't care about Dr. Who, or Star Trek but I'm learning the ways of the nerd slowly but surely just by being around Bob. Naturally when Salt Lake City held their first annual Comic Con, we had to go check it out. I took pictures of everything! Here are some of the highlights:
Clone Wars Vet Hobo
We have gone to the dark side
Posing with the dinosaur
Until I realized this one isn't an herbivore
I found R2D2!
And Princess Leia
And the reason I wanted to go... My superheros!
Captain America and Loki
Black Widow and Hawkeye
Thor (his hair was real, not a wig..)
Iron Man (he acted just like Tony Stark too,
it was awesome)
Wolverine and Mystique
The Flash (our camera is amazing, we caught
him mid-run....)
Wonderwoman!! I don't know the other guy,
sorry I'm still learning...
There were villains too. Bob told Bane to smile and he said
"This is my smile", he sounded like the real thing too!
Poison Ivy and Deadpool
Finally something Bob wanted to pose with,
and it wasn't even a real person, just a card
board cut out.
Bob and I having fun waiting in line to watch
the Cos play competition
Winner of the Cos play competition
View of the crowds we fought all day.
I'm not a Dr. Who fan, but I had to take this for
my sister Savannah, who is..
And also this one, because I knew she would
want it. Too bad it was so blasted pricey,
or I would have gotten it for her for Christmas
and become the greatest sister ever...
We had so much fun, despite the crazy crowds, that I'm sure we will make this a new Loose tradition!

2013 Resolutions Update

Back in April, I felt brave enough to share all my New Years Resolutions with you, hoping that since I had made it 4 months already, then I would be able to make it the other 8 months. This is me checking in and letting you all know how my goals are shaping up so far! Here's a little reminder of what those goals were:

Goals for 2013:

1. Learn Spanish or ASL (sign language)
2. Pay off our honeymoon
3. Pay off my car
4. Get a 2nd car for Bob
5. Get to 125 lbs (the healthiest weight for my body, and the weight I felt best about myself at)
6. Either run a half marathon (13.1 miles) or a sprint triathlon (swim 500 Meters, bike 10 miles, run 3.1 miles)
7. Write a post on my blog for every week.

#1. In April I admitted that I hadn't kept up on this goal and had actually stopped practising back in February. However, I reminded myself a couple weeks ago that just because I failed for a couple days, weeks or even months -that didn't mean I should just give up altogether so I took up Spanish again. I don't know that I will be any good by the end of the year but I have been listening to Spanish Learning programs on CD during my commutes to and from work everyday as well as watching movies in Spanish at home. I even found someone at work who's first language is Spanish and he agreed to help me practise by speaking with each other each day.

2. This is done! We paid off our honeymoon this June!

3. This is also done! I paid this off the very beginning of July!

4. This is also done! Bob and I got a 2nd car the same day that we paid my car off, that way we only have one car payment to worry about.

5. I got really close to this one, and was actually only 2 lbs away from my ultimate goal, but then I got lazy. I actually went back to 130 lbs and stayed there for a while, but I started working out again and I think I can still hit this goal by the end of the year!

6. I'm signed up for a half marathon for the last Saturday in October. However I haven't been training at all since June, so I should probably get my butt in gear! This will get completed though, I already paid for it, so I don't plan on missing it even if it means staggering across the finish line after running/jogging/walking/crawling 13.1 miles!

7. I have ups and downs with this one. Sometimes I keep up really well, other times I find myself falling behind. As long as I show 52 posts for 2013 though, I will count it as done, even if I have to play catch up in order to do it!
