This weekend was a lot of fun! Saturday I had planned an extravagant girls day out for my niece Katie for her 15th birthday consisting of getting our nails done, dinner at the Olive Garden and then a play at Hale Center Theatre. Unfortunately Katie got in a little trouble with her school work and her punishment was not being able to come. Tessa felt really bad since I had put so much planning into the day and I had already bought the tickets to the play, and the tickets were non-refundable. Instead we made it into a girls night out, just Tessa and I. She treated me to dinner, and I treated her to the play. It was the first time Tessa and I were able to spend time together without all the kids or other family members hanging around to distract us. We had a lot of great conversation with each other. She opened up to me about her childhood and what it's like being on the parenting side now, and I opened up about my family and childhood as well as our plans for the future. At the end of the night I tried driving Tessa home, unfortunately the only way to Tessa's house is up hill, and a light slippery snow had fallen while we were at the play. There was no way my car was going to make it there! We resorted to waiting in the Cabala's parking lot while waiting for Sam to come to the rescue and pick up Tessa. It was a great night!
Sunday Bob and I decided to go snowboarding again. I had the goal of trying to make it off the chair lift without Bob holding me up.... I didn't accomplish it. I ended up doing some sort of split move, and decided I was moving too fast -I held onto Bob every time I got off the chair lift for the rest of the day. There were a few more falls throughout the day. At one point Bob thought it would be funny to jump out from the trees in front of me and scare me, but he miscalculated a bit and hit my board, and my feet, right out from underneath me! Don't worry, there were no injuries, just some laughs and a couple scratches on my board. Bob also wasn't paying attention when he hit a dip followed by a jump. After a little air, there was a big thud right on his butt and some more laughter. There were no injuries this time around unlike our first time boarding together. I was also able to stand up and steer pretty easily, and even dared pointing my board down hill a couple times to build up speed (although I did spend most of my time perfecting my falling leaf....slowly). I even managed to make it down an intermediate slope! In 4 hours we made it down the mountain 6 times compared to the 4 runs we did last time in 5 or 6 hours. I feel like I'm really getting the hang of snowboarding, and I can't wait until the day where I have mastered it enough to keep up with Bob as he whips in and out of trees, through the crowds of people and jumping over dips and bumps.
